Factory Closed. Image taken in the Puxi District of Shanghai China. This old factory was closed and demolition started, probably to be replaced by modern office towers or a residential complex.
It’s a little different here because at the moment there are plenty of jobs on offer; in fact companies are still finding it difficult to find enough talent to meet their business needs. When a factory closes it’s usually due to relocation to another site out of the city limits. Some industry sectors are of course finding things hard due to the global economic situation but these industries are then being taken over by new industry sectors, China is very entrepreneurial so things happen fast here.
How do the Chinese deal with such job losses? Are their experiences any difference that of European’s and North American’s?
