Back Breaking
Back Breaking.
Image taken in the French Concession District of Shanghai China.
I have seen this little old lady on many occasions come rain or shine walking the streets of Shanghai with her worn out baby buggy looking for items that can be sold for re-cycling; such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, old newspapers, magazines and cardboard packaging. This lady is not a beggar, she does this to supplement her retirement income and gain some exercise, she is a very proud lady and my hat goes off to her and to all the other retirees in China that do the same thing every day.
My hat, too 🙂
Thanks 🙂
From the Chinese people I have met these photos show the same kind of doing-what-you-can-with-what-you-have and making a life of it.
For sure, the work hard, do what you can ethic still remains 🙂
It stills amazes me how just a picture can convey so many thoughts and emotions. I admire your work and expect to learn more from the different faces of China.
Thank you so much Gina. Your support and comments are really appreciated 🙂

wow, what a strong picture.
It got even stronger when i read your story about it.
It reminds me of a man who roams around in Ghent (where i study).
It’s a sad story thou, he deliberately became ‘homeless’ after his daughter got killed in a ‘tram’ accident. Till now he always roams the trails of that tramline. Sad and beautiful at the same time.
I really feel for these people, after all we are all human beings 🙂
I do feel for these people, after all we are all human beings 🙂
The B&W one is a very moving image: it instantly conveys the idea that there is more here than initially meets the eye…
Very well made.
David.
Thanks David, your comments and kind words are appreciated 🙂
