Your information is probably correct – it looks like some type of pine tree. I was wondering though whether the keeping and maintaining a bonsai was considered a bourgeois activity during the Cultural Revolution, for instance. Do you see a lot of old bonsai surviving?
There are thousands here, especially in parks, old houses and temples.
That’s wonderful then – such an old art, it was never frowned on. Thank goodness:)
Wow 100 years old but it’s very beautiful. Loved the shot. 🙂
What a fantastic tree! Do you know anything about it Mark?
It is very beautiful. Im told it is well over 100 years old and some sort of cyprus, i’m no expert so that may not be correct.

If not for the pot in the shot, the bonsai may have looked like a grand tree — excellent picture!
Thanks Frances 🙂
